Cairo Diary: A Leisurely Day

Wednesday 5th January 2011

The weather today is nice, so a leisurely morning was enjoyed on the balcony with the ever-present sound of traffic punctuating the… no, wait, there is no silence to be punctured in Cairo. When the non-silence was eventually punctuated by the midday call to prayer (the local cantor is atrocious!), I was called to action and made plans for the day.

Jenifer and I caught a cab and sped Downtown for a little shopping in an Egyptian crafts boutique, followed by much wandering and no shopping in Zamalek. This consumed a surprising amount of time and only gave a brief time to catch a wink of sleep before joining Bruce and Yasmine for dinner at a restaurant owned by some movie star (though don’t ask me who). The evening ended over a peppermint tea with Seif and Ola. An early night was required – tomorrow: Alexandria!
